Nataly Woollett

Dr. Nataly Woollett is a South African therapist and researcher, trained and registered in the fields of psychology, play therapy and art therapy.  Nataly received her doctorate in Clinical Medicine from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and her Masters in psychology and art therapy from Lesley University, USA.

Nataly has clinical expertise with victims of violence, particularly family violence, child/adolescent bereavement, HIV infected child/adolescent mental health.  Interventions that address the intersection of violence, HIV and mental health and that use art and play based ways to enhance positive outcomes are a focus area. She has trained, lectured and supervised clinicians and students in these areas of individual and group treatment.

Nataly has experience in conducting research with vulnerable populations, including child and adolescent victims of violence, pregnant women and adolescents experiencing intimate partner violence, and HIV infected adolescents.  Her interests lie in the intergenerational transmission of violence and poor mental health, as well as interventions to curb this transmission. She has published peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters on these subjects.

She is a co-founder and serves on the board of an organization called Lawyers Against Abuse (LvA) that seeks to provide integrated legal and psychosocial services to victims of gender-based violence in Diepsloot, an informal settlement in Johannesburg. She is actively involved in establishing postgraduate training in Art Therapy in South Africa.
