Helena Edwards

Helena Edwards currently lectures for the Masters in Art Therapy programme at the University of Johannesburg, works at Akeso Clinic, and is in private practice. She is a HPCSA and HCPC UK registered Art Psychotherapist and received her Master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counselling at PennWest Edinboro University, in PA, USA.
Helena has clinical experience with children and adolescents with special needs; orphans and vulnerable, trauma-induced children and youth; as well as adult psychiatric clients. She has been working in the mental health field since 2011 and has local and international experience.
She is sensitive to the larger cultural, spiritual, and family contexts that shape and inform us. She trained in a number of approaches, such as Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Jungian therapy, Person-Centred therapy, Mentalization-based Treatment (MBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based therapy (MBT), and Eco-art therapy. This allows her to work integratively to ensure that each person’s unique personality and
situation is treated accordingly.
